WHAT IS HALLMARKING?

A Hallmark is an official mark that has been stamped or lasered on to an item, such as Gold, Silver, Platinum and Palladium. The UK has very strict guidelines when it comes to hallmarking and it is illegal to describe an item, as such, without one. The Hallmark guarantees the precious metal content of the item that you are buying, giving you peace of mind.

To celebrate the up and coming Coronation of King Charles III- 6th May 2023, a commemorative hallmark has been approved.

Commemorative hallmarks have proved very popular amongst UK customers for many years. Most recently, before the death of Queen Elizabeth II, a Platinum Jubilee mark was created in 2022. These have been great additions to the standard UK hallmark, over the years, to mark historic events.

The Optional mark, as it is called, is the King’s head depicted on an oval background. This can be stamped by any of the four assay offices- LONDON, BIRMINGHAM, SHEFFIELD, EDINBURGH, on any precious metal.
